Obituary

CHICOPEE – Elaine M. (Benoit) Kolek, 72, a longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 19, 2017. She passed into Eternal Life at her home with her daughter, Jeannette and grandson, Logan by her side. She was born in Northampton on May 21, 1944, a beloved daughter of the late George A. and Flora A. (Baillargeon) Benoit. Moving to Chicopee at a young age, she was raised in the Aldenville section of Chicopee where she attended Saint Joan of Arc School. She also attended the former Precious Blood High School in Holyoke and graduated from Marie-Joseph Academy in Biddeford, Maine. She was also a graduate of Rivier College in Nashua, New Hampshire where she majored in Elementary Education. She taught at the former Mount Carmel School in Chicopee, Saint Anthony School in Burlington, Vermont and Saint Joan of Arc School in Chicopee. For many years, she was employed as the custodian at Sainte Rose de Lima Church as well as a cashier at Lucky Strike Restaurant, both in Chicopee. She was a lifelong parishioner of Sainte Rose de Lima Church where she served as Sacristan for 22 years. She also served her parish as a Lector, Cantor, Eucharistic Minister, Secretary of the Parish Council and the weekend cook at the Rectory. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister at the former Aldenville Rest Home in Chicopee. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Peter J. Kolek who was Called Home on August 22, 1980. She leaves her loving daughter, Jeannette Cote; and her cherished grandson whom she adored, Logan Peter Cote, both of Chicopee; her dear former son-in-law, Roger D. Cote; her dear cousins, Richard and Kathleen Benoit, of Chicopee and Phyllis Ichton of Holyoke; her dear brothers-in-law, Walter Kolek and his wife, Joette and Francis Kolek and his wife, Ruth, all of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, friends and extended members of the Kolek and Benoit families. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, January 25, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 10 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, January 25, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. before the Mass.
