TEWKSBURY - Mrs. JoAnn Marjorie (Burke) Johnson, age 84, died peacefully in the loving care of her family and the staff at the Merrimack Valley Hospice in Haverhill, Saturday morning, January 21st. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul G. Johnson, the former Chief of Detectives of the Tewksbury Police Department.
JoAnn was born in Lowell in November, 1932, the youngest of seven children of the late Frederick and Eva (Bissonette) Burke, and was raised in Lowell. She was educated in Lowell’s parochial school community, and graduated from Keith Hall. She and her husband had lived in Tewksbury the greater part of her adult life.
JoAnn spent the majority of her life as a book keeper and enjoyed quality time with her family, late siblings, and life long friend Judy Feeley of Lowell.
JoAnn will be fondly remembered as a consummate lady with her kind heart, generous nature, and warm smile, as well as her sense of style, which she carried with her until the very end.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Kathleen Johnson MacKinnon of Atkinson, NH; the joy of her life, her adoring granddaughter, Kathryn Joy Horgan and her husband Ryan Paul Horgan of Grafton; and her great grandchildren Madison Joy and Myles Paul, who adored her.
She was predeceased by her six siblings, Kid Burke, Arthur Burke, Fred Burke, Roger Burke, Dorothy Burke, and Eileen O’Neill.
Relatives and friends will be received on Wednesday morning, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 11:30 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will follow in Tewksbury Cemetery.
