Obituary

Anderson, Ind. – Hyla Ann Quinn Klabunde passed away at Henry County Hospital on January 20 after an extended illness. Born into a pastor’s home in Lima, Ohio, on July 10, 1939, Hyla was the daughter of Rev. C. Lowery and Herma Seeley Quinn. At the age of six, Hyla moved with her family to Anderson when her father became General Secretary of the Missionary Board of the Church of God. Other than her last three years of high school while her father was serving as Pastor of the First Church of God in Defiance, Ohio, Hyla received her formal education in Anderson, graduating from Anderson College in 1961 with her BA degree. While in college she worked part-time at Gospel Trumpet Company (now Warner Press). There she met and two years later married Herbert Klabunde, who had come to the United States from Germany to work at Gospel Trumpet Company. Upon her graduation from college, Hyla worked for the Social Security Administration for eight years. She then fulfilled a life-long dream becoming a “stay-at-home” mom while her children were young.

In late 1987, Hyla accepted the position of Secretary to the President of Warner Press. In 1999, she became Assistant to the General Director of the newly-organized Church of God Ministries, Inc. She served in this role until her retirement in September of 2001. She was an active member of Park Place Church of God and the Truthfinders Class. With her husband, she enjoyed gardening, traveling at home and abroad, going on cruises, and spending a few months each winter in Florida.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert; her children, Kirk Andrew Klabunde and Anthony “Tony” David (wife, Courtney) Klabunde; grandchildren, Cameron Andrew Klabunde, Cole Elijah Klabunde, Kian Jack Klabunde, Issa Ann Klabunde; sisters-in-law, Viola Quinn and Kathi Klabunde Brackett; brother-in-law, Rev. Willi Krenz; nephews, Robert Brackett, Helmut Krenz and Andreas Krenz. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Cleburne L. Quinn, and her sister-in-law, Edith Klabunde Krenz.
Her family extends special thanks to Cathy Shaw for her loving care provided for Hyla at Living Petals Geriatrics Healthcare Home.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Park Place Church of God, with the Rev. Donald Collins and Dr. David Coolidge officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery. Family visitation from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service and one hour before the service on Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Park Place Church of God (Food Pantry) and Alzheimer’s Association.
