Walter E. Brusseau
Walter Elmer Brusseau of Plymouth, MA, peacefully passed away on January 14, 2017 at the age of 96.
The service and visitation will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Shepherd Funeral Home at 116 Main Street, Carver, MA 02330.
Walter was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on March 8, 1920, the youngest of 9 siblings. He attended Brockton High School and served four years in the US Army during which time he was awarded numerous medals, including The Purple Heart and The Bronze Star.
Walter joined the Brockton Fire Department in 1946, where he served the community for 36 years and during his tenure he rose to become Captain. He was well respected by his colleagues and in the community for his hard work and bravery.
Walter married the love of his life, Rita Benoit, in 1947 and they were happily married for 58 years until Rita’s passing in 2005. They raised their children in Brockton and spent their summers on Cooper’s Pond in Carver, MA. In 1985, they built their dream home on Cooper’s Pond and lived there year-round. Walter enjoyed caring for his home, gardening, and riding his motor boat on the pond. He also enjoyed spending the Winter with his wife at their vacation home in Brooksville, Florida. He was a hard working family man who achieved so much yet remained humble and grateful throughout his life.
Walter is survived by his children, Gary Brusseau, June (Brusseau) Halloran, and Linda Brusseau Goldenberg and her spouse Paul Goldenberg; his grandchildren, Alina (Halloran)Nucera and spouse Bryce Nucera, Daniel Halloran and spouse Robert Fortier, Joshua Goldenberg and spouse Luce Goldenberg, David Goldenberg; and great grandchildren Zachary Halloran, Caden Nucera, and Connor Nucera.
Walter is preceded in death by his father Theodore Brusseau of Brockton, MA, mother Leona (Therrien) Brusseau of Littleton, NH, 9 brothers and sisters, wife Rita (Benoit) Brusseau and grandsons, Jason Halloran, and Sean Halloran-Dupes.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
