Obituary

CHICOPEE – Alfred P. Dansereau, 97, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family, his wonderful caregivers and his comrades-at-arms. He was born in Holyoke on January 29, 1919, a beloved son of the late George and Agnes (Hebert) Dansereau. He was raised in Holyoke and Chicopee and moved to the Aldenville section of Chicopee in the early 1950’s. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and attained the rank of Seaman First Class. He served aboard the USS Dakota and received the American Area Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his military service, he returned to the area and was employed for 42 years as a Gunsmith at the Savage Arms Company in Westfield. He was a member of the Elder Council 69 Knights of Columbus and the Aldenville American Legion Post 337, both in Chicopee. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Most of all, he was a quiet man who adored his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Marian M. (Menard) Dansereau who was Called Home on April 21, 2014. They were married on October 25, 1941 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 72 years of happiness together. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his loving son, Richard A. Dansereau who was Called Home on October 1, 1992; and his two dear brothers, Ernest and Roger Dansereau. He leaves his loving daughter, Carol D. Sansoucy and her husband, Harvey, of Bath, NH; his loving daughter-in-law, Connie Dansereau of Florida; his six cherished grandchildren, Ron Sansoucy and his wife, Julie, John Sansoucy and his wife, Karen, Jeff Sansoucy and his wife, Trish, Lynn Wickham, Carrie Baidas and her husband, Kevin, and Pamela Cooper and her husband, Doug; his ten cherished great-grandchildren; his cherished great-great grandson; his dear sister, Claire Kotowicz of Southwick; his dear brother-in-law, Norman Menard and his wife, Theresa, of Ludlow; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Dansereau and Menard families. His funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, January 25, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
