George Thompson, 82, of Ty Ty passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley officiating. Mr. Thompson will be laid to rest at First Baptist Church of Ty Ty Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 19, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Thompson’s family members will serve as pallbearers at the Chapel and the military will serve as pallbearers at the graveside.
Born July 27, 1934 in Belfast, Ireland, Mr. Thompson was the son of the late Georgiana Walker Thompson. He was a retired machinist and retired from the United States Air Force as a pilot. He served two tours in Vietnam and served in the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Mr. Thompson is survived by a son, Marion Blankenship of Ocilla; a daughter, Shirley Jane Koch of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
