Obituary

Fernand L. Fregeau (Al), 89, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Jan. 15, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 21, 1927 in Chicopee to the late Ernest and Mayda (Moyette) Fregeau, Al, a WWII Navy Veteran, served as a cook on the USS Saturn and the USS Arnold J. Isbell. He was the owner of the former Moonlight Inn in Chicopee and also of Al’s Lunch on Springfield Street. If you grew up in Chicopee in the 50/60's, Al's Lunch was the “Arnold's” of “Happy Days.” This iconic location was the local gathering spot for the Elms College girls as well as the Assumption Drum Corps. After retiring from the restaurant business, Al moved on to real estate. He was an avid ballroom dancer, loved playing billiards and cards, and enjoyed traveling to Florida. Al leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 69 years, Marie/Terry (Archambeault) Fregeau of Springfield; five sons, Michael and his wife Terry of Westfield, Robert of Florida, Paul and his wife Mary of Springfield, David and his wife Adriana of Florida, and Thomas and his wife Maureen of Chicopee; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Mathew, Joel, Alex, Sarah, Nicole, and John; four great-grandchildren, Hayley, Emily, Isabelle, and Samantha; nephew Paul and niece Annemarie. He was predeceased by his brother Ernest Fregeau Jr. and sister Eileen Gorzocoski. All services are private. Any donations can be made to the Soldier's Home in Holyoke.
