New Bedford – Jose Manuel Paiva Vieira, age 65, passed away at home on Sunday January 15, 2017. He was the loving husband of Fatima (Ribeiro) Vieira and the son of Maria Adelina (Paiva) Vieira and the late Jose Vieira deMelo Machado.
He was born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, moved to this country in 1968 and worked as a truck Driver and Commercial Fisherman.
Jose was an avid fan of The New England Patriots, Belenenses Soccer Club and muscle cars. But most of all, Mr. Vieira enjoyed spending time with his loving family.
He is survived by his mother, Maria Adelina (Paiva) Vieira; 2 children: Paul Jose Vieira and his wife, Lisa, and Christina deFatima Pereira and her husband, Rui, of New Bedford, all of New Bedford; a grandchild, Tiago Antonio Vieira; siblings: Goretti Medeiros, Louisa Cook, Ana Medeiros, Maria Christina Almeida, Susan Vieira Soares and Joao Deus Vieira; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jose was predeceased by his brother, Nelson Vieira.
His funeral will be Wednesday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
