Obituary

KENNEBUNKPORT- On January 14, 2017 Kendall Burford passed away peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, ME.  He was born on December 15, 1939 to Dr. George Edgar Burford and Joanna Elizabeth (Kendall) Burford in New York City.

He was raised with his three older sisters, Joanne, Jill, and Judy in Teaneck, NJ. He and his family enjoyed idyllic summers at Silver Bay, NY, on Lake George. Ken graduated from The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT in 1958. He was the co-captain of the football and basketball teams.

After graduating from Loomis, he attended Colby College in Waterville, ME.  In the fall of 1959, after completing his freshman year, he wisely decided that he would benefit from taking time off to gain more direction and voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army.  After serving in Germany, he was honorably discharged in August of 1961 and returned to Colby College and graduated in 1964. He majored in history and was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity.

It was at Colby where he met the love of his life and best friend, Linda (Doe) Burford, in English history class. They were married senior year on August 24th, 1963 and then welcomed their daughter Elizabeth the following year. Ten years later their son, Kendall, joined the family.

Ken furthered his education at Boston College Law School in Newton Centre, MA, and received his law degree in 1967.  He was a member of both the Maine and Massachusetts Bar Associations. Ken very much enjoyed his 33 years as a trial attorney and was always thankful that he pursued a career in law.

After living in Holden, MA, for over two decades, Ken and Linda retired to Goose Rocks Beach, ME, in 2000.  He served on the Holden Finance Committee and later on the Kennebunkport Planning Board.  A man of simple pleasures, one of Ken’s greatest joys was to walk with Linda and their animals along the beach. Ken had a special place in his heart for all of the bulldogs in his life and will be missed by his present bully companion, Toby.

Ken is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Linda W. Doe. He leaves his daughter Elizabeth (Burford) Breston, her husband Matthew, and their children Leo, Eli, Lila, and Georgia of Austin, TX.  He also leaves his son, Kendall E. Burford, his wife, Virginia (Myers) Burford and their lovely daughters Kincaid and Emily of Jacksonville, FL.

In accordance with Ken’s wishes, services will be private.
