Obituary

Anthony R. “Tony” Cornetta 90, of Franklin, died peacefully, Saturday January 14, 2017 at his home following an illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan F. (Bishop) Cornetta, who died in 1995.

Born September 11, 1926 in Franklin, a son of the late Louis and Lucia (Lamagna) Cornetta, he was a Franklin resident for most of his life and with his wife, raised their daughter, in Medway.

He was raised and educated in Franklin and was a member of the Franklin High School Class of 1944. While in high school he served as class President for all four years. Mr. Cornetta was the retired owner of Creative Decorating in Franklin for over 50 years.

Anthony served in the United States Army during WW II; he attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in October 1946.

He enjoyed playing golf, wintering in Florida, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. He was a member of the St. Anthony’s Society, the Franklin VFW Post 3402, was a Lifetime member of the Franklin Elks Lodge #2136 and the Quattro Eroi Lodge #1414 Franklin Sons of Italy. He was also a Past President of the Divot Golf League.

He is survived by a daughter Mary L. Cornetta-Brown and her husband Erik of Boston, a brother Richard R. Cornetta and his wife Priscilla of Franklin, 2 sisters, Rose Marie Cornetta & Jean A. Dorr both of Franklin. Also surviving are several nieces & nephews.

He was the brother of the late Joseph P., John F., William L., and Alfred Cornetta.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Thurs. Jan. 19th at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin at 10AM.

Interment with military honors will follow at the parish cemetery.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7PM.
