Obituary

George W. Jordan, 95, of Stonington, passed away peacefully in his home on December 31, 2016. Mr. Jordan was born in Savannah, GA to Olive Marie (Jones) and George Washington Jordan Sr. on September 21, 1921. Mr. Jordan completed high school in Savannah and began his college education at Georgia Institute of Technology, followed shortly by his marriage to A. Elaine Hursh of Middletown OH. Interrupted by World War II, he returned to finish his college education and graduated as a Chemical Engineer. Mr. Jordan served in the United States Army during World War II, as an officer in the Army Specialized Training Program beginning in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Captain. Mr. Jordan continued to serve in the reserves and retired as a Major in 1965. Mr. Jordan went on to professional success with several chemical companies as a Professional Licensed Engineer and ended his career at John Brown Engineers. During this time, he and his growing family traveled the country. Mr. Jordan retired at 65, after living and working in the Netherlands.
Mr. Jordan is preceded in death by his sister Olive, brother Robert, and his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Elaine, 96 and his children: Dorothy (Robert Brackett), Richard (Nancy Leone), David, Peggy (William Brissette), and Kathleen (Kirk Diamond). Additionally, he is survived by eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mr. Jordan was a keenly intelligent man full of creativity and wit. His love of life and learning was evident through his endless delight in reading, music, and discussions with anyone and on any topic. George W. Jordan will always be remembered by his family and friends as loving, loyal, and eternally devoted to his wife. ‘…and grace will lead us home.’
A service will be scheduled at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
