SWANSEA – Luis M. Furtado, age 79 of Swansea, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Remédios da Bretanha, São Miguel, Açores, he was the beloved husband of the late Maria D. (Medeiros) Furtado and the son of the late Luiz Raposo Furtado & Beatriz (Albernaz) Furtado. Prior to retiring, Luis worked as a Maintenance Man in the Textile Mfg. Industry.
He was a parishioner of St. John of God Church and a member of its Holy Ghost Society. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Swansea, and an avid Benefica Soccer, Boston Bruins, & NE Patriots fan. Luis enjoyed fishing, gardening, & taking care of animals. He mostly cherished spending time with his grandchildren and his new great granddaughter.
He is survived by his children: Dora Medeiros (husband Joe) of Swansea, Maria Medeiros (husband Jose) of Somerset, Michael Furtado of Swansea, Steven Furtado (wife Eydie) of Somerset, Theresa Furtado (companion Carlos) of Fall River, and Mark Furtado (wife Maria João) of Fall River; siblings: Jose Furtado of Fall River, Libelia Tavares, Gilda Faria, Maria Rebello all of Canada, and the late Antonio Furtado; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Sarah, Steven, Amanda, Miranda, Justin, & Mariah; great granddaughter: Sadie Louise; many nieces & nephews.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Tuesday at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John of God Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
