Leo A.J. Lamontagne, 86, of Fairhaven passed away Tuesday January 10, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, including his devoted wife Marion "Kathy" to whom he was married for 54 years.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of the late Leo and Marie Blanche (Collette) Lamontagne, he attanded New Bedford schools. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 20 years until his retirement as Master Chief. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He later was employed as a spreader at Calvin Clothing for 25 years.
Mr. Lamontagne was a former member of the Pvt. A. Poirier Post 3260 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In addition to his true love, his wife Marion, he leaves three loving daughters, Laura Lamontagne, Lisa Fitzsimmons, and Lynn Lamontagne-Correia and her husband Randy Correia, and two beautiful grandchildren, Shannon Walsh and Caden Fitzsimmons, all of New Bedford. He is also survived by his loving sister, Doris Leblanc, three Godchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday January 17, 2017 at 8:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 9:30 AM. Burial with military honors will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be on Monday January 16, 2017 from 4-8 PM.
