Obituary

Richard (Dick) Louis Arieta of Kingston, MA passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, January 9 2017.

Dick grew up in Taunton MA and was the son of Taunton Atty. Salvadore Louis and Anne Arieta. He was a graduate of Coyle-Cassidy High School and Southeastern Mass University where he lettered in 3 sports.

Dick started his teaching and coaching career at Fairhaven High School later moving onto Silver Lake Regional High School in 1969. Dick also owned and operated The Basketball School and The Plymouth Sports Dome. Throughout his dedicated and successful life, Dick positively impacted countless individuals and families locally as well as throughout New England. Dick was a proud member of the Plymouth Yacht Club, a recipient of the Boston Celtics Hero Among Us Award and an inductee of the MA Coaches Basketball Hall of Fame.

Devoted husband and father for over 50 years, Dick is survived by his loving wife Gail, their 5 children; Richard Jr., Michael, Allison, Jennifer and Matthew, their spouses, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his 2 sisters; Tess and Carol of Mission Viejo, CA, as well as many other relatives and friends who loved him dearly and will miss him. Dick also left behind his faithful dog Hall.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 13 from 4-7 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St. (Rte. 106) Kingston, MA. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in on Main St. Kingston, MA on Saturday, January 14th at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be received for the “Dick Arieta Memorial Basketball Scholarship Fund” at 220 Main Street Kingston, MA 02364.
