Teresa V. (Sullivan) Toomey , age 89, of Hingham passed away on January 9, 2017 in the South Shore Hospital.
Beloved wife of the late John A. Toomey who predeceased her on April 14, 2015.
Born in Boston, MA , she was the daughter of the late John D. & Mary Sullivan.
Teresa entered the order of Sisters of St. Mary of Namur on August 14, 1945 and took the name Sr. Teresa Clare. She received her Perpetual Vows in 1954.
She taught Grades 1 & 2 in Buffalo, Kenmore & Binghamton NY as well as Remedial Reading in Dallas TX from 1945-1955.
In 1955 Teresa became Head Mistress of Novices in Lowestoft, England until 1959. From 1959 until 1961 she again taught in Kenmore, NY. She relocated to Kings Tree & Florence, SC where she was assigned as a Parish Minister from 1961-1966. Sr. Teresa Clare received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education from Medialle College in Rochester, NY in 1965. Upon her assignment completion, she relocated to the Kenmore & Buffalo NY region teaching grades 1 & 2 from 1966-1972 and leaving the order on Oct.18, 1974.
Teresa was the sister of Timothy “Teddy” Sullivan of FL, Kevin Sullivan of Tewksbury and the late Mary E. Sullivan, John F., Harold J., S. Regina Patenaude, Dorothy Hodgson, Robert P., Chester, Michael & Edward Sullivan. Teresa is also survived by her sister in laws, Jeannette Sullivan, Marty Sullivan, Kathy Sullivan and Judy Sullivan. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass in St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St. Tewksbury on Friday at 11:30 A.M. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visitation in the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St. Tewksbury on Friday 9:30-11 A.M. Interment Tewksbury Cemetery.
