George J. Ambrose, Jr., 60, of New Bedford, died January 5, 2017, unexpectedly at home. He was the husband of Debra M. (Brites) Ambrose.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late George J. and Hazel (Medeiros) Ambrose, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
George was formerly employed as a taxi cab driver in New Bedford for many years until his retirement.
He enjoyed bowling and playing softball in the past and was known as "The Babe." An avid sports fan, George enjoyed watching baseball, football, bowling and wrestling on TV. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Dipper Cafe.
Survivors include his wife; a son, George J. Ambrose, III of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Robert Ambrose of Lakeville and Manuel Botelho of New Bedford; 3 sisters, Cynthia Mastera of Acushnet, Donna Vigeant of Florida and Sandra Malo of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Justin J. Ambrose, and brother of late Hazel Charlotte Misiaszek and Barry Ambrose.
His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11 AM in the Pacific Union Congregational Church, 526 Old County Road, Westport, MA. Visiting hours are omitted.
