John H. “Sonny” Giddings, 81, of Tifton passed away Monday, January 9, 2017, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Ty Ty with the Rev. Rodney Owens officiating. Mr. Giddings will be laid to rest at First Baptist Church of Ty Ty Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 11, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Giddings will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Sephus Willis, Mark Engram, Stacey Rutledge, Randy Tucker, Michael Tucker and Frank Willis will serve as pallbearers.
Born August 8, 1935 in Crosland, Mr. Giddings was the son of the late John Earl Giddings and Ruby Perry Giddings Beard. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Williamson; and a brother, Randall Willis. He retired as a supply cataloguer at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ty Ty. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Randolph for four years.
Mr. Giddings is survived by his wife, Sylvia Pollard Giddings of Tifton, to whom he was married on March 20, 1958; two sons, David Giddings and Glenn Giddings, both of Tifton; and several cousins.
