TEWKSBURY - John S. Ivas Jr., age 50, a member of Boston’s sheet metal workers union, died
unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Aug. 23, at Saint’s Memorial Medical Center in Lowell, after a
brief illness. He was the husband of Trudy L. (Saia) Ivas, with whom he had celebrated a 25th
wedding anniversary this past May 17th.
He was born in Somerville, July 26, 1955, the son of John S. and Irene (McGahan) Ivas of
Burlington. He was raised in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School with the
class of 1974. He attended Boston State College.
He was employed by Local 17, Boston Sheet Metal Workers Union. He worked for the E.L.
Barrett Co. in Quincy.
He was a parishioner of St. William’s in Tewksbury, and was active at World Gym in Tewksbury.
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian Hoadley
and his wife Christina (Jop) of Billerica, and John B. Ivas of Tewksbury; a daughter, Jennifer Ivas
of Tewksbury; a sister and two brothers-in-law, Elizabeth (Ivas) Coots and her husband Richard
of Melrose, and Benjamin Saia Jr. of Stratham, NH; and his father-in-law, Benjamin Saia Sr. of
West Peabody.
His Funeral Mass was held Friday, Aug. 26, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Interment was in Tewksbury Cemetery.
