Bess Wheeler Summers White, age 96, died on January 6, 2017 at her home in Water Valley, MS. She was born March 21, 1920 in Charleston, MS to Mr. and Mrs. Hiram A. Summers, Sr. A graduate of Charleston High School and Northwest Community College in Senatobia, she worked in Memphis at the Commercial and Industrial Bank. She was married to Colonel Lloyd F. White until his death in 1994 and they had been married for 49 years. Living in several different places when he was in the Air Force, they retired to Water Valley in 1965. A devoted homemaker and an active member of First Presbyterian Church for many years, she was a member of the Women in the Church and enjoyed working with the youth fellowship and teaching Bible School. She enjoyed working in her yard and was a member of the Water Valley Garden Club.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Summers, Hiram Summers, and Robert Summers; and two sisters, Isabel Edgar and Mary Frances Attaway.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Caulfield and her husband Barron, of Water Valley, MS; three grandchildren, Barry Caulfield, Lloyd Caulfield, and Bethany Caulfield Hembree and husband Rob; and three great grandchildren, Olivia, Parker, and Emma Hembree.
Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Water Valley at 3:00 PM Tuesday, January 10th, 2017 with Rev. Harold Spraberry and Rev. Richard Wiman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with Barry Caulfield, Lloyd Caulfield, Rob Hembree, Len Lawhon, John David Lawhon, and Randy Walker serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of First Presbyterian Church and Joe Spence and James White.
