Obituary

BEVERLY: John M. “Jack” Dooling, 89, died Thursday, January 5, 2017 in the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. He was the beloved husband of Connie E. (Bernasconi) Dooling.

Born in Beverly on September 2, 1927, he was the son of the late C. Frederick and Annette (Dionne) Dooling. A lifelong resident of Beverly, Jack was a graduate of Beverly High School, class of 1945, where he was the first recipient of the Beverly Sports Club award. He was also a graduate of Wilbraham Academy, class of 1946 and attended both Bates College and Boston University. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War Two. He was honorably discharged in 1948.

Jack owned and operated the Morgan-McPherson Insurance Agency in Beverly for many years before retiring in 1992. He was the Executive Director of the Beverly Housing Authority in the 1950’s and served on the Beverly School Committee. He had a passion for golf and was a long-time member of the Salem Country Club, where he served on the Board of Governors. Jack was an avid reader, a football enthusiast, and always willing to engage in a political debate.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Karen L. and Thomas Guidi of Danvers; his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin J. and Holly Dooling of Beaufort, SC; five grandchildren, Jason Yarn and his wife, Heather of New York City, Lauren Guidi of Boston, Ryan Guidi of Danvers and Hannah Blake Dooling and Emily C. Dooling, both of Seattle, WA; a great-grandson, Hal Yarn of New York City; a sister-in-law, Janet Dooling of Beverly and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister, Patricia Mahoney, and four brothers, Fred, Bob, Gerry and Tom Dooling.

His funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours.
