Obituary

Wayne Harris, 69, of Omega passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Medical Center Navicent Health in Macon. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley and the Rev. Conway Harris officiating. Mr. Harris will be laid to rest at Omega Cemetery with the Rev. Rickey Wells and the Rev. Anson Jackson, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 8, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The family will be at his home at 4496 Ellenton-Omega Road in Omega.

Vincent Wayne Gilliard, Erric Roberts, Lance Jackson, Jason Harris, Jeff Harris, Roy Luke and Jeremy Lyon will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be James Jackson, DeVaughn Harris, Donnie Jackson, Bobby Jackson Sr., Tim Jackson, Dale Jackson, Fleman Harris and Dr. Brent Savelli.

Born October 28, 1947 in Worth County, Mr. Harris was the son of the late Aren Benjamin “Bud” Harris and Inez Herndon Harris Namanny. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Rickey Devin Wells, three brothers, Junior A. Harris, Jerry B. Harris and Henry B. Harris; and a sister, Louise Leggett. He was a retired, self-employed truck driver and owner and operator of Wayne Harris Trucking Company and attended Summers Chapel Church in Worth County. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed helping people and put others before himself. His favorite past-time was spending time with family and loved and spoiled his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandson. He also enjoyed going on family vacations.

Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sarah Jackson Harris of Omega; two daughters and sons-in-law, Derry Harris Wells and husband, Rickey Wells of Omega and Tammy Harris Luke and husband, Roy Luke of Vanceville; two brothers and two sisters -in-law, Ted Harris, Thomas and Wanda Harris and Hazel Harris, all of Tifton; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Thelma Clark and Mattie Mae Bentley, both of Tifton and Carolyn and A. J. Roberts of Ashburn; two grandchildren, Kayla Wells Lyon and husband, Jeremy and Vince Gilliard and fiancé, Sara Moree; one great-grandson, Paxton Merritt Lyon; and a great-granddaughter, Anyston Lyon.
