Jimmy Carroll Henderson, 83, of the Lands Crossing Community, Irwin County, Georgia, died Thursday, January 5, 2017, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, January 7, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Steve Hand and the Rev. Sonny Pate officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Creek Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6 PM to 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Henderson was born January 12, 1933, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late Herman Jackson & Ruby Idella McDaniel Henderson. He lived in the community most of his life and served in the United States Army during the Korean era. Mr. Henderson worked with the Irwin County Commissioners and also farmed. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Ruth Henderson of Lands Crossing Community; children: Sondra H. Cowan & Robbie of Fitzgerald, Jay Henderson of Lands Crossing Community, Cathy H. Truelove of Kingsland, Ed Fussell of Lands Crossing Community and Jackie F. Golden & Tom of Fitzgerald; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one sister, Christine H. DeBusk of Inverness, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Gail Henderson and a brother, Herman Jesse “Junior” Henderson.
