Obituary

Cecil “Calvin” Cox, 64, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held, 2 PM, Saturday, January 7, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6 PM until 8PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Cox was born August 20, 1952, in Douglas, Georgia, to the late Cecil Calvin Cox, Sr. and Louise Griffin Cox. He lived in the community all of his life, graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1969 and was a truck driver for Dan Holloway at WTB. Mr. Cox loved to fish, drive his big truck and especially enjoyed cooking and being with his family. Mr. Cox was of the Pentecostal faith.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Darlene Williams Cox of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses: Vonda C. Jones & Chris of Warner Robins, Felicia S. White & Raymond of Rebecca, Billy Smith, Jr. & Robin of St. Augustine, Florida, Jeffery Smith & Tracy of Ocilla and Ray Smith & Victoria of Palatka, Florida; grandchildren & spouses: Brianne & James Villers, Layla Benton, Mason Benton, Kirsten Wolters, Jadyn Jones, Holly & Casey Conner, Heather Bayard, Kayla Smith, Brandon Zeek & Hector Smith, Dakota Smith, Dion & Regan Smith, Dusty Smith, Elizabeth “Liz” Smith and Katelyn “Katie” Smith; 11 great-grandchildren and a sister, Delga Cox of Ambrose. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandchild.
