Obituary


LEHRER, Glenda Talley, 95, of Cambridge, Mass., died January 1, 2017, after a long illness.

She is survived by her son Gordon Talley and his wife, Carole, of Cambridge; her son Rich Lehrer and his wife, Sharon, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and her daughter, Janis Scott and her husband, Bryce, of Victoria, Tex. Also surviving are her sisters, V.J. Stevens, of Anamosa, Iowa, and Elaine Coffin, of Avon, Conn. She has three grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Tyler Lehrer of Madison, Wis.; Christopher Scott and his partner, Amanda Martinez, and their children, Leland and Emma, of Victoria, Tex.; and Valerie Lehrer of Roseville, Calif. She was predeceased by her husbands, Jack Talley and Irving Lehrer, and by her parents, F.O. and Corda Martin, and five siblings: brothers Dale, Eldon, Roy, and Gerald Martin and sister Maxine Walker. She was aunt and great aunt to more than 30 nieces and nephews from California to Connecticut and matriarch of an extended family from Alaska to Louisiana.

Glenda was executive director of YWCAs in Pennsylvania and Indiana, dorm mother at New Hampshire, Northeastern and American universities, a long-time Sunday school teacher for adults in Missouri and Massachusetts, and chaired her church council. She traveled to virtually all US states, Canada, Mexico, and England. Her avocations were quilting, needlework, gardening, and reading.

Her memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Calvary Church, United Methodist, 300 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA 02474. Interment will be in Missouri.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From the south or west, take I-95 north to Rte 2 east, exit 29A. Continue to the bottom of the hills to the Lake Street Arlington exit. At the end of the ramp, turn right on Lake Street under the highway and continue until the end. Turn left on Massachusetts Ave. Calvary Church is on the left at Linwood St. Parking is free; note the signs if you turn into residential areas.

From the north, take I-95 south to Rte 2 east, ext 29A, and follow directions above.

Parking lot to rear of funeral home and on street parking is free.
