TEWKSBURY - Ellen Marie (Barry-Smith) Janes, age 70, died Saturday, Aug. 20, at the New England Sinai
Hospital in Stoughton, Mass., where she had been in residence for nearly a decade.
She was born in Stoneham, April 5, 1935, a daughter of the late Edward and Helen (McManamin)
Barry. She was raised in Stoneham and Wakefield, but lived in Methuen the greater part of her
life. She moved to Arizona, but returned to Clinton, Mass, before illness forced her entry into
New England Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital.
She was employed in electronic manufacturing.
She enjoyed Bingo at Foxwood in her later years.
In her earlier years, she attended St. Patrick’s Parochial School in Stoneham, where she
participated in the school’s marching band. She went on to graduate from Nazareth Academy
high school in Wakefield.
She is survived by two daughters, Anne Marie Smithers of Methuen, and Darlene Kimble of
Seabrook, NH; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrel Smith and his wife Lisa (Lisowski) of
Seabrook, NH, John Smith and his wife Cindy (Sweeney) of Rochester, NH; two sisters and a
brother-in-law, Kathleen Barry of S.C., Maureen Conway and her husband John of Tewksbury,
two brothers and a sister-in-law, John “Skip” Barry and his wife Pauline of Londonderry, NH,
Mark Barry of Wisconsin; twelve grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Her funeral Mass was held Saturday, Aug. 27, in
St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Following cremation, interment will be
private.
