William C. Lafrenière, 93, of Chicopee, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at The Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. He was born in Holyoke, MA on Feb. 8, 1923, son of late Clément J. and Adèle (Boutin) Lafrenière. As a child he lived and attended school in Aldenville. He lived in Holyoke and Belchertown, before settling in Chicopee in 1961. William proudly served his country with the US Navy in WWII, on the USS Merrick. He was employed by the General Electric Company in Holyoke and Pittsfield, MA for over 25 years and retired from Mercury Plastics in Chicopee in 1990. William enjoyed woodworking and upon his retirement spent many hours at it. William was a communicant of the former Assumption BVM Church in Chicopee for many years. William was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Georgette Sarrazin, on April 16, 2010. They were married in St.-André-Avellin, Québec, Canada on Nov 13, 1948. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Cécile Lefebvre and Yvonne Fountain. William is survived by his only son, Gary Lafrenière and his wife Michèle (Dionne) Lafrenière, his grandsons Mathieu Lafrenière and Justin Lafrenière, all of Chicopee, along with several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at the Soldiers’ Home for the TLC that they provided to William during his short time there. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Grisé Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St., Chicopee. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 6 at 10:00 am at the Grisé Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St., Chicopee, MA, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Assumption Church (Holy Name of Jesus Parish), 104 Springfield St., Chicopee. Burial will follow in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery, Aldenville, MA.
