Obituary

Joaquim D. Couto died unexpectedly on Monday morning, January 2, 2017 at Morton Hospital and Medical Center in Taunton. He was 77 years old.

Born in Terceira, Azores, he was the son of the late Maria Emilia Diniz and Francisco Coelho do Couto. He served in the Portuguese Army during the Angola War in 1963 - 1964. He arrived in the U.S. in 1966 and started his family. He worked at Foxboro Company as a machinist. He loved watching NASCAR races and especially watching his beloved soccer club of Sporting. He enjoyed playing card games with family and friends and particularly fond of Portuguese style family dinners prepared by his loving wife.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Raquel C. Couto and his 4 children, David DeCouto and his wife Wendy, Suzy Couto, Nelson Couto and his wife Jessica, and Dennis Couto, his brother Manuel (Manny) Couto and his wife, his sister Maria Cordeiro and her husband. Sister-in-laws include Maria V. Medeiros and husband Jose, Gabriella Tigano, MaryJo Michener and her late husband Jerome Michener, and the late Maria Manuela Burges as well as many nieces, nephews and 6 grandchildren.
Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home at 70 Washington Street, Taunton on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church in Taunton at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, January 5th from 6 to 8 p.m.
