Obituary

Skaggs, James H. “Jim”, 94 of Louisville, KY passed away on December 31, 2016. Born on February 11, 1922, at Evans Landing, he soon moved with his family to their native Edmondson County, KY, where he grew up at Lock and Dam No. 6 on the Green River at Brownsville.
He was first employed by the Norfolk and Western Railroad at New Camp, South Williamson, and Pike County, KY and later at Reynolds Metals Company in Louisville where he retired after 25 years of service.
In Louisville, he was an active longtime member of Rockford Lane Baptist Church where he volunteered on the finance committee. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the 755th Railway Battalion, U. S. Army Transportation Corps during World War II in England, Belgium, and France.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Freda Vincent Skaggs; his parents, Noah M. and Elizabeth McCrady Skaggs; two sisters, Blanche Skaggs Demunbrun and Lillian Skaggs Whittle; and four brother, Stinson, Warner, Kenneth and Donald.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Skaggs Speth (Tony), two grandchildren, James Patrick Butler (Kristin) and Margaret Cox; and two great grandchildren, Tess Olivia and Julian Alexander Butler. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Sarah Ruth Skaggs and Dorothy Crawford Skaggs, in addition to many nephews and nieces and dear friends.
He will be remembered for his kindness, patience, self-discipline, and his deep love of family and country.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Rockford Lane Baptist Church 2006 Rockford Lane with graveside services at Steep Hollow Cemetery in Brownsville, KY at 1:30 CST. Visitation will be 2:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Hwy.
