Doc Fuller

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest New Year’s Day at his home, Mr. Hugh “Doc” Lovelace Fuller, 91, loving husband of 61 years to the late Edith Fuller.

Doc retired from the U.S. Post Office in Evans, GA. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Evans for 68 years. Doc was postmaster for 15 years and then transferred to Rural Carrier. He received an award for 34 years of service to the Government of the United States from the United States Postal Service. After retirement he worked with Jim Courson Realty for 20 years. Doc was a past commander of the American Legion Post 192 in Evans.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. Doc served as a Staff Sergeant with the 158th Infantry Regimental Combat Team and was recognized by General Douglas MacArthur as the greatest fighting combat team “Bushmasters” ever deployed in battle. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and Bronze Arrowhead, Philippines Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation, and the Arizona Medal of Valor.

Family members include his daughters: Ginger O’Connell Webb and husband Michael, Cindy Fuller Weathersbee and husband Don; grandchildren: Gabe Weathersbee, Joey Weathersbee and wife Christina; and great grandchildren: Jacob, Carson, and Charleston. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his sons, Stan and Tony Fuller.

The funeral service will be Friday, January 6, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Evans with Brother Bob Rayner and Pastor Stephen Rayner officiating. Burial will follow at Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
