William M. Alligood, 65, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, August 22, 2005 at his residence.
Graveside Services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Wilcox County, with Rev. Bill Rathbun officiating.
Mr. Alligood was born September 8, 1939 in Dodge County, Georgia, to the late Coleman Alligood and the late Mildred Lugennie Hendrix Anderson and was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Andy Anderson. He grew up in Fitzgerald and moved back to the community in 1979. Mr. Alligood retired after serving twenty-three years with the United States Navy. He then worked for the Fitzgerald Post Office for ten years as a Rural Mail Carrier. Mr. Alligood attended Calvary Baptist Church in Fitzgerald. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, a Shriner and Caribbean Naval Lodge.
He is survived by his wife: Sherry Alligood of Fitzgerald; children: Debbie Moran of Fresno, CA, Billy Alligood, of Tifton, Carrie Alligood of Los Angeles, CA, Michele Alligood and Kelly Alligood, both of Fitzgerald; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers: John Alligood of Fitzgerald, Stanley Alligood of Sylvester, Allen Anderson of Hawkinsville and Steve Anderson of Fitzgerald; sister: Gennie Rathbun of Newnan.
