NATICK: Margaret (Peggy) Green Whelan passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the age of 98. She was the daughter of Michael and Mary Gaul of Brigus, Newfoundland and Framingham, MA. She was the wife of John Green of Natick for 36 years and in her later years was married to Martin “Bud” Whelan for eleven years.
Born in 1918, Margaret lived a long life, emigrating from Newfoundland at the age of 13. She worked at Rayfield’s in downtown Framingham where she made lifelong friends before meeting Johnny Green and settling in Natick. She never knew which team to root for on Thanksgiving Day. South Avenue in Natick became her true home. Her Catholic faith sustained her especially later in life. Her home for the last six years was at Oak Knoll Healthcare Center in Framingham. There are no words to describe how much Oak Knoll meant to her and her family. She was truly happy there.
Peggy leaves her children, Mary Jo LaFreniere of Hopkinton and Christine Bonnevie (Bob) of Framingham, her grandchildren, Christina Bonnevie Goldschneider (Ari) of Sharon, Robert P. Bonnevie, Jr. of Quincy, Michael LaFreniere (Shannon) of Framingham, John LaFreniere of Florida and two great grandchildren, Leo and Owen Goldschneider of Sharon, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church, 44 E. Central St., Natick on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 12:00PM. Visiting hours are at the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St. at Natick Common prior to Mass beginning at 10:00 AM.
