Billy Brooks, 68, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Christian Fellowship with the Rev. Rex Johnson and the Rev. Jack Day officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Brooks was born August 14, 1948, in Hillsborough County, Florida to the late Elbert & Merle Day Brooks. He worked as a loom repairman at a cotton mill in Alabama and also worked as a carpenter alongside his uncle. He retired in maintenance from Fitzgerald Railcar. Following his retirement, Mr. Brooks enjoyed working in pecans with the Walkers. He also enjoyed visiting and singing at the Po Boy Opry. He will be remembered by his family as a hard worker and a man that was committed to finishing any job he started. Mr. Brooks was a member of Christian Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Bonnie Sirmans Brooks of Fitzgerald; three daughters: Angie Brooks & Wesley Turner of Fitzgerald, Peggy Freeman & Hugh Hardy of Ashburn, along with their mother, Pat Davis of Ashburn, and Misty Harper & Annie Humphrey of Atlanta; grandchildren: Hannah & Josh Burnham, Emily & Shane Moncus, Chelsea Cobb, Michael & Victoria Peek, Meghan Reeves, and Taylor Manjarres; great-grandchildren: Hudson Peek, Hammett Peek, Kemp Rivers, Sutton Burnham, Paren Moncus, and Callan Moncus; and a sister, Melrose Peterson of Dothan, Alabama. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Brooks; and an uncle with whom Billy was very close, Newton Day.
