Obituary

CHICOPEE – Glenn G. Scruton, 84, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Christmas Day, December 25, 2016. He passed into Eternal Life at the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke. He was born in Rochester, NH on July 12, 1932, a beloved son of the late Joseph L. and Ruth (Callahan) Scruton. He was raised in Rochester and was a graduate of Spaulding High School in Rochester. He furthered his education and received an Associate’s Degree in Horticulture from Holyoke Community College. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and later transferred to the United States Air Force. He served in the Vietnam War and continued his military service which spanned over 20 years. He retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He received numerous commendations including the Vietnam Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. His military career took him and his family throughout the United States. Following his retirement, he and his wife resided in Lantana, Florida and later in South Carolina before returning to Aldenville in 2001. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Holyoke. He was an active member and Past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Westover Chapter 11 in Chicopee where he also served as their Adjutant. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 275 in Chicopee and volunteered a great deal of his time at the Leeds Veterans’ Hospital and the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke. He was a wonderful woodworker and an excellent gardener who had his own secrets to growing the greenest grass in his neighborhood. Above all, he loved all of his family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Dorothy (Daunheimer) Scruton. They were married on June 25, 1955 and were blessed with over 61 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving children, Daniel G. Scruton of Palmer and his partner, Lisa Eldridge, Gayle D. Booth of Chicopee and Diane R. Keedy-Pisko of Northampton; his six cherished grandsons, Joseph, Matthew and Nathan Scruton, Joshua and Justin Booth, and James Keedy Jr. and his wife, Chelsea; and his cherished great-granddaughter, Olivia Duda. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving daughter, Bonnie Lynn Brown Rae who was Called Home on December 9, 2007; his dear brother-in-law, Edward Daunheimer; his cherished granddaughter, Jessica Kathleen Booth; his dear sister, Virginia Shepich; and his dear son-in-law, Michael Pisko. His family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 1810 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. His Committal Service with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Funeral Service at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
