Owen W. Heleen, 84, of New Bedford died Sunday December 25, 2016 at Sacred Heart Home after a long illness. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Amandoles) Heleen.
Born in Taunton, the son of the late Owen W. and Doris M. (Wilber) Heleen, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Heleen was employed as an independent real estate appraiser.
He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Brown University.
An avid sports fan, he loved watching the Boston Red Sox and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; five children, Owen W. Heleen, Jr., Pamela A. Heleen and her husband Donald Spear, Peter C. Heleen and his wife Colleen Foley-Heleen, Mark L. Heleen and his wife Lisa Marie Sylvia, and Christian D. Heleen and his wife Carol; nine grandchildren, Alison E. Heleen, Peter J. Heleen, Nikolas W. Heleen, Kaitlin P. Spear, Alexander G.M. Spear, Jenna R. Heleen, Jillian R. Heleen, Cassandra L. Heleen, and Kevin L. Heleen; and his cousin, Dr. Richard B. Wilber.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday December 29, 2016 at 10 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church. A private family burial will take place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. His family will receive visitors on Thursday from 8:30-9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, prior to the Mass.
