Virginia R. Whitmore, 91, of Whitman, died on December 23, 2016 at South Shore Hospital. Born in Worcester on April 2, 1925, the oldest of five children born to Harold L. and Phyllis C. Sheldon, all of which pre-deceased her.
She honorably completed the Cafeteria-Catering course from David Hale Fanning Trade School for Girls on June 22, 1944 and ran her own Baking/Catering Business for many years.
Married to Milton Clark Dec. 20, 1947, Milton died Nov. 19. 1965. Ginny re-married to Harold G. Whitmore on Oct. 12, 1968 and divorced in 1974.
Best known as the “Cake Lady”. Ginny made the “best cakes, pies, pastries and cookies”. Proud member of Whitman Republican Club, Member of the Women’s Garden Club, 2012 Honorary Member of Paralyzed Veterans of America, Life Member of Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Always volunteering for something somewhere.
Loving daughter, sister, friend, aunt, and step-grandmother. Survived by several nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, great nieces and nephews including but not limited to Pamela Buiel of Brockton, Diane Clark of Marlboro, Alma Perry, Roy Moore, Frederick L. Rutherford, Jr., David Rutherford, Sonja Revelle of Manteo, NC, Susan Chiaparas, Centerville, VA, Heidi Worcester, Ashford, CT and Judy Sawtelle of Gardner, MA. A special thank you to Janet Cole and George Blaney, Brian Bezanson, Debra O’Leary, and Scott Esau for always being there for Ginny, no matter what she needed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary Circle), Whitman. Burial will follow in the Springlake Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 3 to 7 p.m.
