Obituary

Ronald R. Roy
Manchester– Ron died at Pheasant Wood Rehab in Peterborough on December 21, 2016 following a lengthy battle with liver disease.
He was born in Manchester on January 24, 1947 the son of Henry and Irene (Hemond) Roy. He was a graduate of Manchester Memorial High School and attended NH College of Accounting & Commerce.
He served his country in the U. S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and served two tours in Vietnam.
Ron’s wife, Samantha wished to thank all the staff at Pheasant Wood and Crestwood Rehab in Milford. Everyone was wonderful to him and he received excellent care at both. He had some special friends at Pheasant Wood and received his first bubble bath from Renee - and wanted more-.
He tried to be the Boss everywhere, and told Laura (another nurse) after pulling her braid, that she couldn’t go anywhere when he heard her discussing days off. He was a frequent visitor at the nurses station, and had many stories to share with Mary-Ann, and told me “she was tough”. At the end of every discussion, he wanted to go home. Now, Ronald is home, and I’m sure he is trying to control everything there. He fought a long battle with his health issues, and the war of demons. He was a long time member of Intervale Country Club, Henry J. Sweeney Post #2, and the Alpine Club. He was a Great Friend to all his club buddies– especially Geno Martel, Roger Raymond, Bob Thompson and his wife, Lori. He had fun at the Mont Royal– with boyhood pal, Ray Farland, and Patrick Frost, Ed Miller and Ed Lavery. He was a kind and generous man at all the clubs, and “Archie Bunker” at home. Samantha was his “Edith”. Through all the hard times Samantha loved and cared for him. Sam also wishes to thank the staff’s at West Roxbury V.A. Hospital, MA., Jamaica Plains V.A. MA., White River Junction, V.A. VT., Concord Hospital, Elliot Hospital and the Community Hospital in Peterborough. Every staff member tried to help him. His primary care staff at the VA in Manchester were wonderful– Especially Mary Gavrilles, who took care of him for 15 years, as did Linda DiOrio (G.I. Clinic), and his favorite primary nurse, Helene Ball and Dr. Kuong. Sam would also like to thank the chaplain, Pam of Pheasant Wood who gave Ron a sendoff that wasn't Catholic, but he got the message. Sam had the staff raise the bed up as high as it could go so he could go head first through those pearly gates,- surely he is trying to control everyone up there. He is looking down on all of us, and wishing he could of changed some things. Hopefully he has met up with Noah– an angel of a grandson who died at 15 months, only 3 months ago. Ron brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people, and his last words to Samantha were, “sorry, I know I screwed up”. He made peace and was forgiven. On the 21st when he was dying I told him his son Jay was going to be here to help mom take him home. He wanted to be back home so badly and his last words to Jay were always “get me the hell out of here”. So, he is home now and hopefully at peace. The suffering can stop for all of us. Special thanks to all the social workers, rehabs and hospitals, especially Mike and Kim with Hospice through VNA, Greg, the social worker at Pheasant Wood and Mary in admissions, as well as Linda the social worker from Crestwood who was amazing. So many helpful people “trying to accept what was too late to change”. Rest in peace now, Ronald.
Other family members include son Timothy and wife Melissa of Woburn, MA., Noah’s twin, Emma, granddaughter, Morgan, Son, Thomas and wife Lori of N. Haverhill, daughter, Mitchell and husband, Mike of Port St. Lucie, FL., son Jay and wife Cheryl of Manchester. Jay was Ron’s “Right Hand Man” and made sure Samantha got the help she needed, daughter, Tammy and grandson Brandon of Auburn. He also leaves a brother Henry Roy and wife Anita of Hooksett, a sister in law Barbara of Myrtle Beach, SC. He was predeceased by a brother Marc Roy. Special thanks to Ron’s friend Bou– from Boufford Funeral Home– who will make sure Ron’s wishes were granted. They were friends to the end— Ron always said to Samantha— “you may have had me for 26 years, but Bou gets me in the end”.
A committal service with military honors will take place on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 at 1 PM in NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
