Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Richard M. Stenberg, 84, a former longtime resident of 151 Redlands Street in the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. He passed into Eternal Life at Care One at Redstone in East Longmeadow surrounded by all the memories that he loved and cherished. He was born in the West Roxbury section of Boston on May 11, 1932, a beloved son of the late Martin and Marion (Palmquist) Stenberg. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from Springfield Technical High School. He continued his education and received an Associate’s Degree from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He also received a Fellowship Diploma from the Gemological Association of Great Britain. He was employed as a Quality Controller at Storms Drop Forge in Springfield. An avid hunter, he was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Pioneer Valley Sportsman’s Club. He also was a member of the Swedish Vasa Organization, the Sons of Norway, the Connecticut Valley Mineral Club, the Micro-Mounters of New England and a longtime volunteer at the Springfield Science Museum. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Springfield. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Leonardine “Lennie” (Mason) Stenberg who was Called Home on May 10, 2005 and his loving sister, Joan M. Watson who was Called Home on August 1, 1992. He leaves his two loving sisters, Carole Sandin and her husband, Dale, of Miami, FL and Phyllis Long of Findlay, OH; and his many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended members of the Stenberg and Mason families. A Private Graveside Prayer Service and Celebration of his life will be held in the Spring Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129.
