Obituary

CHICOPEE – Claire Lillian Goyette, 79, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, Returned to Her Lord on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at Mount Saint Vincent Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by her loving family. She was born at home in Chicopee on July 21, 1937, a beloved daughter of the late Edward W. Goyette and Grace (Cliche) Goyette-Bellerose. She was raised in Aldenville, graduated from Saint Joan of Arc Elementary School in Aldenville and Cathedral High School in Springfield. She furthered her education and received a Bachelor’s Degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee and later graduated the former Saint Luke’s Hospital School of Medical Technology in Pittsfield. Following her graduation, she was employed at the former Saint Luke’s Hospital in Pittsfield for a short time. In 1961, she returned home to Aldenville and worked at the Westover Air Force Base Hospital until it’s closing in 1974. She was later employed by several local laboratories under contract with the former Medical West, now Riverbend, in Chicopee until her retirement in 1995. Claire kept herself busy following her retirement with knitting and crocheting. She also worked on extensive genealogical research with her dear cousin, Linda Lamagdeleine-Poirier of Chicopee, and together they traced their family roots back to France in the early 1600’s. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she served as a member of the Parish Council, the Administration and Finance Committee and a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a longtime member of the Aldenville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 337. Above all, she loved all of her family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Conrad Goyette in 1996; her sister, Noella J. Harnois in 2013 and her husband, George M. Harnois in 1996; her two nephews, Eric Harnois in 2004 and David Harnois in 2013; and her friend of 33 years, Alice T. Bouchard in 1996. She leaves her nephew, Michael E. Harnois and his wife, Robin, of Belchertown; and their three sons, Jeffrey Harnois and his wife, Kathleen, of Arnold, MD and their two daughters, Piper and Isla, Evan Harnois of Chicopee and Nathan Harnois of Mashpee. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Lola Goyette of Phoenix, AZ and her two sons, Michael Goyette, and Edward Goyette and his wife, Carol, and their daughter, Sarah-Anne, all of Arizona. She also leaves her two step-nephews, James and Jeffrey Beauregard and their families, all of South Hadley; her many cousins; and her many friends and extended members of the Goyette family. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located at the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
