Obituary

Grace Dorminy Troupe, 90, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, December 22, 2016, at her residence.

Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Friday, December 23, 2016, at Troupe Family Cemetery in Ben Hill County, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM, on Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Troupe was born March 13, 1926, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late James Walter & Ludie Virden Dorminy. She was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School. She worked as a secretary at Robins Air Force Base during World War II. After her husband completed his military service, they returned to Fitzgerald. She was a homemaker and a farm wife and also worked as a secretary at Ben Hill County Farm Bureau. She loved to fish and garden and grow vegetables. An avid dancer, she enjoyed attending Friday night dances at the Ben Hill Senior Center. She was a member of Arbor Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Jimmy & Debbie Troupe of Fitzgerald; two grandchildren: Evan Troupe of Statesboro and Leanna & Joseph Carswell of Augusta; two great-grandchildren: Anna Jane Carswell and Joseph Gamble Carswell; a sister, Martha Morrison of Fitzgerald; and her companion for the past 9 years, Robert York of Fitzgerald. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H.A. “Sonny” Troupe, Jr.; two brothers: Jim Dorminy and Troy Dorminy; and two sisters: Louise Williams and Ruth Ann Dorminy.
