George E. Silvia, Sr., 91, of Taunton, passed away on December 20, 2016 at Life Care Center in Raynham.
He was the beloved husband of the late Bertha E. Silvia.
George was born in Taunton, a son of the late Augustus and Catherine (Mahoney) Silvia.
Before retirement in 1987, Mr. Silvia was employed with the city of Taunton with the street dept for over 27 years.
Mr. Silvia served his country with the Navy during WWII. George was a proud aircraft pilot who owned his own plane. He was a member of the Taunton Municipal Airport. Most of all George was a loving and caring person who was devoted to his family.
George is survived by his children, George E. Silvia, Jr., Jean R. Silvia both of Plymouth, Ronald A. Silvia Wareham, Gus W. Silvia, Kevin S. Silvia both of Raynham, Nadine A. Rand of Fairhaven, Grandfather of 10, great-grandfather of several, brother of Florence Beaulieu of Taunton. George was also the brother of the late Larry Silvia, Margaret Brandon and the late Catherine Santos and grandfather of the late Ryan Silvia.
Mr. Silvia’s funeral with visitation will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 8 am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway, Taunton followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Holy Family Church, East Taunton. Interment with military honors will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
