Obituary

William Michael “Mike” Silkes, of Malden, formerly of Medford and Somerville passed away on Saturday. He was 70. Raised in Somerville he was the son of the late William F. and Edna M. (Perry) Silkes. Mike graduated from Somerville High School. He Enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge he
went to work for city of Medford Water Department for over 35 years. Mike loved the horses and was an avid fan of the sport of kings. He was a great sports fan in general and a great student of movies and the music if the 1960’s and 70’s. He was a good friend to many and was devoted to his wife, children and family.


The beloved husband of Ellen M. (Donovan), he leaves his devoted sons: William John Silkes and his wife Michelle of Revere and Patrick Michael Silkes of Malden. He was a dear brother of Kathleen Matthews of Medford and brother-in-law of Anne James and her husband Richard of Londonderry, NH. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday December 23rd at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
