Dorothy Jane Leger Sutton, 87, of Ocilla, Georgia died Sunday, December 18, 2016 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the Ocilla Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason K. Smith and Rev. Matthew Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Brushy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening, December 20, 2016 at the Paulk Funeral Home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Sutton was born July 5, 1929 in Thomasville, GA to the late Jay Edd and Myrneth Parrish Leger. She was a 1946 graduate of Ocilla High School and attended Valdosta State Women's College. Mrs. Sutton was a former resident of Damascus, GA, and Blakely, GA, before moving to Ocilla in 1941. She was a former Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader, GA (Girls Auxiliary) leader, and a past president of the PTA. Mrs. Sutton was retired bookkeeper of Sutton Tractor Company. She was an active member of the Ocilla Baptist Church, the Gleaners Sunday School Class, and the WMU. She was an original member of the Ocilla Sewing Club. She was "Mama Dot" to her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and others who came to know and love her. She will also be remembered for her many paintings which have become treasures to her family.
Mrs. Sutton is survived by her four children including daughter Brenda Sutton Liberti of West Palm Beach, FL; daughter Dianne Sutton Tincknell and husband Rich of Savannah, GA; son, Kenneth W. Sutton, Jr. "Ken" and wife Nancy of Ocilla; and daughter Pam Sutton Thompson and husband Bill of Augusta, GA.; twelve grandchildren: Rachel Liberti (fiancé Adam Gutzwiller), Caroline Liberti (Greg Arnold), Drew Liberti (Bridget), Amy Tincknell Smith (Jason), Matthew Tincknell (Melissa), Jonathan Sutton (Kristie), Ashley Sutton, Shelby Sutton (fiancé Stephen Brown), David Connolly (fiancé Brittany Ammons), Benjamin Connolly, Rob Thompson, and Becca Thompson; and seven great grandchildren who were the light of her life: Tristin and Jay Sutton, Savannah and Summer Smith, Mary Claire and Gregory Tincknell, and Townes Liberti. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth W. Sutton, Sr., and brother, Marcus Leger.
The children wish to express their deep appreciation to Brenda Pavey and to Laura and Matthew Baker for their loving assistance to and care of Mrs. Sutton in recent years.
