Obituary

Martinez, Ga---Mrs. Juanita Rhoden Fox entered into rest on Saturday December 17, 2016, at Kentwood Nursing Facility.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from the Platt’s Funeral Home Crawford Avenue Chapel, in Augusta with Reverend Tip Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 am until time of service, at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fox was born in Hazlehurst, Georgia but lived most of her life in Augusta. She was a member of Central Christian Church since 1936, where she was a member of the Homemakers Sunday School Class, a former member of the Helping Hands, the church’s first female Board Chairman, the church’s first female Treasurer, and a Youth Sunday School Teacher. Mrs. Fox graduated from Tubman High School in 1938, and was a member of the Tubman Alumni Association. She also served a term on the Board of the Christian College of Georgia in Athens.

Mrs. Fox was a charter member of a special group of women known as the “Sewing Club” for fifty years and was one of the last 4 survivors of the group, which at one time grew to 25. She worked at the John P. King Mill for thirty-eight years, first as an insurance clerk and then as the Secretary and Treasurer of the King Mill Credit Union. She retired in 1983. For ten years, she was cared for, at home, by her friend Catherine Old, who continued to sit with her when she went to live at the Augusta Gardens Assisted Living facility. Later, Catherine continued to sit with her at the Kentwood Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Fox was preceded in death by her husband John F. Fox and her great grandson James Cody Fox. She is survived by her son, James Larry Fox, Sr. (Cheryl) and her daughter, Deborah F. Thomas (Frank), five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews: Brandon Thomas, Baylan Thomas, Larry Fox Jr., Jim Barry, Jimmy Rhoden, and Jerry Rhoden.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Central Christian Church, 220 Crawford Avenue, Augusta, Georgia 30904.
