Obituary

Jose Samon Olivero, age 71, of Jamaica Plain, formerly of Cuba, on December 17, 2016. Born in Oriente, Cuba on January 14, 1945. He was one of the first Cubans to be airlifted from Guantanamo Bay to the United States when he was just 22 years old. Survived by the love of his life Irma (Avelar) Olivero to whom he was married to for 48 years, three children, S. Lorena Olivero, Maria Walkes and her husband Sean and Jose Olivero, Jr. and grandchildren, Lianna Olivero-Bello, Jacquelina Olivero-Fernandez and Caleb Olivero-Walkes, great grand daughter, Emmalina Blain, his sister in law, Sonia Franco, a god daughter and niece, Ana Maria Franco, Francia and Francisco Franco, Fiedi Franco, Ariella Emmanuel, his beloved siblings in Cuba and many close friends and family. Jose was a member of Local 1121 and an active member in the local Cuban community in which he loved to play Dominoes. He dedicated his life to his family and will be remembered as the amazing man he was. Visiting hours at the Brady & Fallon Funeral Home 10 Tower St. (Opp. Forest Hills MBTA Station) Jamaica Plain on Wednesday December 21 from 5-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday December 22 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 14 Montebello Rd., Jamaica Plain at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
