Rhode Island – John R. Raposo, age 77 of New Bedford, succumbed to injuries as a result of an automobile accident and passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the loving husband of Maria Jose (Pires) Raposo and the son of the late Joao Luis and Maria Isabel Alves (Ribeiro) Raposo.
Mr. Raposo was born in Atalhada, St. Michael, Azores, immigrated to this country in 1969 and worked for New Bedford Plastics Company for many years until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Jose (Pires) Raposo, of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Suzanne Arruda and her husband, Paul, and Meagan Raposo, all of New Bedford; a grandson, Gabriel Arruda of New Bedford, a sister, Almerinda Da Gloria Caroca of St. Michael, brother in law, Luis Pires and his wife, Conceicao of New Bedford, and a sister in law, Lucia Ferreira and her husband, Mariano, of Dartmouth as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Jose Raposo and Ruben Raposo.
His funeral will be Wednesday beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M.
