Obituary

James Knox, 84, of New Bedford died December 15, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Vilma T. (deAndrade) Knox.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Alexander and Agatha W. (Corea) Knox, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Knox was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.
He was formerly employed as a union carpenter for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Knox served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Portuguese-American Social Club, Loyal Order of Moose and Dartmouth Seniors.
Survivors include a son, John Knox of Fairhaven; five daughters, Tammy Mattson, and her husband Randy, of Republic, MI, Jamie Bouchard, and her husband Bruce, and Annette Fisher and her husband Neil, all of New Bedford, Bonnie Knox of Mary Esther, FL, and Heather Tetreault, and her husband Jules, of Old Lyme, CT; 15 grandchildren, Nathan Mattson and his wife Heather, Andrew Mattson and his wife Lindsey, Lauren Doxtator, Elicia Nolde and her husband Aaron, Jessica and Brad Bouchard, Brandon Bouchard and his fiancée Regina Dube, Keri and James Lepore, Joshua, Lexi, and Jonathan Knox, Olivia and Ryan Tetreault, and Alexis Creasman; and 9 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Ean, Aidan, Noah, Logan, Cole, Chase, Emma and Ava.
He was the grandfather of the late Matthew Alves and the brother of the late Alexander Knox, Jr.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 21st at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 10 AM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, December 20th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Veterans Transition House, 20 Willis St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
