Anne K. Wood, 82, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, December 12, 2016, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Central United Methodist Church, with the Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. Interment will follow at 4 PM, in New Park Cemetery in Ft. Gaines, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary on Wednesday.
Mrs. Wood was born August 7, 1934, in Clay County, Georgia, to the late James Turner & Evelyn Hubbard Killingsworth. She was a graduate of Clay County High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree in social services from Valdosta State College. She loved and raised her family in St. Mary’s and Valdosta and while in Valdosta, she was awarded the 1971 Jr. Women’s Club, Woman of the Year. Mrs. Wood had a career of over 33 years with the State of Georgia doing social work. She retired as the director of Satilla Mental Health Services. She served on many state and local service boards during her career. After retirement, Mrs. Wood moved to Fitzgerald in 2000. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and the Covenant Sunday school class. She participated in many ministries of the church as well.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Walt Wood of Fitzgerald, Turner & Kathy Wood of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Greg & Sally Wood of Evans, Meg Adams & Jerry Kopydlowski of Dunwoody; her grandchildren: Whitney & Jorge Gomez, Brandon Wood, Ben Wood, Jr., Palmer Wood, Katie Anne Wood, Charlie Wood, Bailey Wood and Henry Kopydlowski; and three great-grandchildren: Joaquin Gomez, Mari Gomez, and Savannah Wood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Copeland.
