Ellen C. (Markell-Burke) Burns, a lifelong Charlestown resident, entered into eternal life on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home. She was 89 years of age.
Ellen was born in Boston on July 23, 1927, a daughter of the late Fred Markell and Nellie Burke. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Ellen worked as a waitress throughout her life at the Engineers Club and at several other establishments in Boston. Ellen enjoyed puzzles, crosswords, and reading.
Ellen is the beloved wife of he late Thomas F. Burns. She is the devoted mother of Laney Burns, Tommy Burns, Paul Burns, and Jimmy Burns. She is the loving Nana to 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of the late Virginia Kinsley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ellen's visiting hours on Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 3 to 7 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her funeral service and burial are private.
