Obituary

Beverly Melle Brown Fitzhugh was born the second daughter to Arnold E. and Lydia B. Brown (nee White) on October 21, 1960. She was raised in Englewood NJ. In high school she was an excellent student and a sports enthusiast, competing in varsity field hockey, basketball and lacrosse.

She attended Cornell University where she majored in math and played on the lacrosse team. While in college she met the love of her life, Marc Fitzhugh, who was attending Dartmouth College. They married in June of 1983 and celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on June 21, 2017. For the first few years of their married life, they lived in Massachusetts. Marc and Beverly relocated to Alpharetta, GA. where they raised their four sons Winston, Benjamin, Marcus and Owen.

Beverly was a loving and devoted mother who fashioned a career as an educator around the rearing of her sons. She delighted in her family, who were the center of her universe.

A committed educator, she believed in the ability of each child to love and excel in Math. She took the opportunity to nurture each child as an individual. Often referred to as, “The Math Whisperer”, she doggedly saw each of her students through to success.

Beverly was an avid tennis player and a member of ALTA and USTA leagues. She was also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

Beverly was an active member of Mt. Pisgah Church in Alpharetta.

Admired for her abiding faith in God, Beverly’s faith never wavered throughout her struggle with metastatic breast cancer.

Proceeded in death by her mother, she is survived by her devoted husband Marc, loving sons Winston (Cortney), Benjamin, Marcus and Owen; her father Arnold Sr. (Gwen); siblings Crystal Brown (Craig McIntyre), Dale Brown (Thomas Monari), Arnold Brown II (Kristen Penner); mother and father-in-law Arline (nee McClure) and Stanley Fitzhugh Sr.; brother-in-law Stanley Fitzhugh Jr., sister-in-law Dawn Fitzhugh Bryant (Oris); and grandson Hayden Fitzhugh; four nieces, five nephews and a host of family members and friends who loved her dearly.

She will be deeply missed.
