Palmira Andrade, 97, of New Bedford passed away on Thursday December 8, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Benjamin Andrade.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Henriqueta deAndrade and Cristovam Lima Brito, she had lived in New Bedford since 1981.
Her joy in life was taking care of her grandchildren. She enjoyed her shots of "grogu" and smoked her pipe for over 70 years.
Survivors include her children, Ida A. Smith and her husband William, Natalia Correia and her husband Aires, Maria "Bibica" Miranda, and Armando Andrade and his wife Eugenia, all of New Bedford; two stepdaughters, Adelina Xavier of Brava and Francisca Xavier of Pawtucket, RI; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was the mother of the late Elder D. Andrade.
Her Funeral will be held on Monday at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
